A Weekend from Kochi

From Kochi, Wayanad is a long drive up the coast and then a climb through nine hairpin bends. Most people try to do it all in one go and arrive tired, in the dark, on the ghat road. There's an easier way. Naz's Farm House sits at the foot of that ghat, so you can stop here, sleep in the hills, and take Wayanad as a relaxed day trip.

The drive

Kochi → Naz's Farm House: about 221 km, 4½–5 hrs

Take NH66 north from Kochi, up the coast past Kodungallur, Ponnani and Kottakkal to the Kozhikode bypass. From there, turn inland on NH766 through Kunnamangalam and Thamarassery to us at Puduppadi. Google Maps shows around 4 hr 20 min on a clear run. Allow closer to 5 hours with traffic and a tea stop.

Why stop at the foot of the ghat

The Thamarassery ghat starts just up the road from the farmhouse. After five hours of highway driving, nine hairpin bends in fading light is the hard way to begin a holiday. Stay with us instead and drive up the next morning, fresh and in daylight, when the views are at their best. You'll also come back down to a quiet house rather than hunting for dinner in a busy hill town.

Coming by train

Kozhikode station → us: ~37 km · ~1 hr 15 min

Plenty of trains run from Ernakulam to Kozhikode every day, and the trip takes roughly 3 to 4½ hours depending on the train. From Kozhikode station it's about 37 km by taxi to the farmhouse. It's a good choice if you'd rather not drive the highway.

Coming by bus

Get down at Thamarassery

Buses from Kochi heading to Wayanad, Mysore or Bangalore pass through Thamarassery. Get down there and it's a short taxi or auto ride to us. Message us your arrival time and we'll help you with directions.

A two-night plan

Friday evening to Sunday

Friday: Leave Kochi after lunch and reach us by evening. Check-in is any time after 2 PM. Saturday: Drive up the ghat to Lakkidi, Pookode Lake and the Wayanad hills, and be back for a BBQ dinner in the garden. Sunday: Take a slow morning on the terrace or a short trip to Amarad Waterfalls, 9 km away. Then stop in Kozhikode for a biriyani lunch and a walk on the beach on your way home, since it's on your route. Our Kozhikode beach guide has the details.
