This year Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November, and Karnataka has a Deepavali holiday on Monday 9 November. That makes Saturday to Monday a three-day weekend, or four if you leave on Friday evening. Instead of another festival at home, bring the whole family together in a private villa in the hills near Wayanad.
One house, the whole family
One group at a time, no other guestsNaz's Farm House is booked by one group at a time. Grandparents, cousins and children all stay under one roof: two bedrooms, The Majlis loft for extra sleepers, a double-height hall to gather in, a full kitchen, a garden and a terrace over forested hills. Early November is just after the rains, so the hills are green and the evenings are cool.
A quiet Diwali evening
Lamps on the terrace, hills going darkBring your diyas and rangoli colours and set them out on the terrace as the sun goes down over the valley. It's a calmer Diwali than the city, with no traffic, no noise and the family all in one place. A BBQ evening on the terrace can be arranged for an extra charge, and restaurants nearby deliver a good variety of food, vegetarian included.
For the children
Carrom, karaoke and a loft sleepoverThere's a carrom board in the games nook, a Bluetooth speaker for music, a swing, and The Majlis loft where children can have a floor sleepover. The garden is theirs to run around in. Our family gatherings guide has more ideas.
